Born into one of the leading Mob families in Chicago, Aria Scuderi struggles to find her own path in a world where no choices are given. Aria was only fifteen when her parents betrothed her to Luca – The Vice – Vitiello, the oldest son of the head of the New York Cosa Nostra to ensure peace between the two families.
Now with eighteen, the day Aria has been dreading for years is looming dangerously her wedding to Luca.
Aria is terrified of marrying a man she hardly knows, especially someone like Luca who got his nickname ‘the Vice’ for crushing a man’s throat with his bare hands. Luca might be one of the most sought after men in New York thanks to his good looks, wealth and predator-like charisma that radiates power, but the society girls throwing themselves at him don’t know what Aria does that the bad boy aura isn’t just a game; blood and death lurk beneath Luca’s striking gray eyes and arrogant smile.
In her world a handsome exterior often hides the monster within; a monster who can just as easily kill as kiss you.
The only way to escape the marriage to Luca would be to run away and leave everything she’s ever known behind but Aria can’t bear the thought of never seeing her family again.
Despite her fear, she decides to go through with the marriage; Aria has grown up among predators like Luca and knows that even most cold-hearted bastards have a heart and she has every intention of working her way into Luca’s.

Bound by Honor Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles Book 1 edition by Cora Reilly Romance eBooks

If you enjoy a book with a great plot, keep looking. We meet the heroine at age 15 when she is forced to get engaged to the son of a capo uniting the New York and Chicago crime families. Poof, three years pass and we are at the wedding. This was so exciting for the author that almost four pages of the prologue are repeated word for word about a quarter of the way into the book. There is the potential for a villain, but that person disappears part-way through the novel.

Character development is lacking. Get ready for a lot of "You're a bad man, but I love you." "Don't love me. I'm a bad man." Lather. Rinse. Repeat. The proof that the her loves her is that he doesn't rape her. All righty then.

If you are fascinated by Italian crime families, don't expect to learn anything here. I began to wonder if the author had met any regular Italian-Americans, let alone mobsters. For a bunch of Sicilians, there seem to be a surprising number of natural blonde, blue-eyed or grey-eyed characters. I had a big guffaw when the bride's family goes shopping for her wedding dress less than six months (166 days) before the wedding. This is an event they have known about for three years and involves the top crime families of New York and Chicago. Yeah, let's not worry about the dress. The description of the groomsmen at the altar in vests, but not jackets was amusing as well. Somehow the heroine seems to be able to get away from her bodyguard with relative ease. I guess the whole bodyguard scene isn't that important in the Mafia, especially in the middle of a territorial war.

The heroine is supposed to be a modern young woman, yet has an antiquated knowledge of and attitude toward sex. Some reviewers complained about there being too much sex in the book, but the fact is that the marriage described in the prologue isn't consummated until the 80% mark. Most of the talk about sex is that the heroine doesn't want to have it or how much it hurts. Not really a big turn on.

If editing errors bother you, then run for the hills. I began to wonder if the keyboard capitalization key was stuck as a number of common nouns were improperly capitalized (Beautician, Canapés, Spa, Tofu ...) Ironically, in a book about Italian crime families the author couldn't make up her mind whether to capitalize Mafia or not. At least be consistent.

There are great dark Mafia romances. This isn't one of them.

Bound by Honor Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles Book 1 edition by Cora Reilly Romance eBooks Reviews

"This wedding wasn’t about love or trust or choice. It was about duty and honor, about doing what was expected. A bond to ensure peace."

This is my first book that I've read by Cora Reilly and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's about an arranged marriage between two feuding mafia families, who hope to combine forces to fight back the Bratva and the Triad crime organizations. Aria being from the Chicago Outfit and Luca from the New York Familia. They became betrothed to one another when Aria was 15 and were to be married upon her turning 18. Only meeting Luca once during their engagement party, Aria knows very little about this man that she now has to call husband.

"I knew only two things about Luca Vitiello; he would become the head of the New York mob once his father retired or died, and he got his nickname ‘The Vice’ for crushing a man’s throat with his bare hands."

This is a story about Luca and Aria finding one another in hopes of making something loving out of the marriage that was forced upon them. Of course, Luca is sexy, strong, and powerful and Aria is the semi-naive virgin. I really enjoyed their chemistry and the sexual tension between these two was off the charts.

I was on cloud nine by the end of the book! This story has danger, action, suspense, scorching hot sex, anger, and happiness. My only complaint is that I wished it had a sequel as I'd love to read more about this couple that captured my heart!!

“You are far too beautiful and innocent to be married to someone like me, but I’m too much of a selfish bastard to ever let you go. You are mine. Forever.”

Please Note There is cheating in this book.

anyway, this one was a surprise because I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. found it really disturbing that Aria's father was grade A d-bag who promised his 15-year-old daughter to a 20 year old rival Mafia heir to unite both of their families; it doesn't matter that they got married after she turned 18

but still!!! what kind of a d-bag auhfadfsddnajfhdj

I'm wholeheartedly #TeamAria in this one. She did look a little meek at the start of the story, and I was prepared to dislike her, but she turned out to be more resilient than I thought. I really like the relationship between Aria and her siblings, especially with Gianna. I love Gianna; she's so fierce. I adore Lily despite her early promiscuous ways, and Fabi too.

I love how Aria and Luca's relationship developed and progressed; it wasn't insta-love because lbr ain't nobody got time for that when you're essentially forced to marry a murderer whose nickname is The Vice because he once choked the heck out of an enemy. Jury's still out on Luca because I still can't forgive him for the Incident, and I was SO GLAD that Aria lashed out at him for it because that's what I'd do, smart or nah .

Overall, it was an angsty read somewhat with some plot holes, some slut-shaming, and some typos ('save' instead of 'safe' twice now really????), but it was entertaining enough for me to finish it in one sitting.
